Recently, when I was sitting in a coffee shop nearby, got a chance to listen in a conversation between the ‘Coffee aunty’ and a passing by lady. The stuff was like, the aunty have a kid just finished his 10th and was looking for an admission to some +2 school. Fortunately or unfortunately he secured a good first class in his studies. So the aunty argue like, he must attend +2 with Science or Computer science since he got a first class. She stated it like a rule of ‘Go Science’.
I was not needed to tell her anything in this regard. And also I don’t know whether that ‘unfortunate’ joined a Science or Computer Science course as per the ‘Rule’ sooner or later.
But the event made me recall the same point in my life. As soon as I passed my 10th examination, my parents and relatives sometimes even friends too told me to take the subject Science or Commerce in the +2 school nearby our home. Since I secured a First class in 10th(not a good one, something marginal !), the branch Humanities was not suggested as an option for me.
Eventually I started caressing with the science subjects. I really don’t know whether I liked or interested in those subjects, but I studied texts, did labs, learned equations by heart, did assignments, wrote exams.
I have no idea on things am doing everyday or the purpose. Woke up in the morning, heading to school, spending 6 or 7 hours there, comeback home in the evening. It was like a pre-loaded program, everything in place I have nothing to do challenging with it.
See, why we studied all these subjects, what it benefit to us?
I remember, in one of the lab I used to dissect our cockroach?. Do I need to dissect anything today?. 🙂
Did these dissecting insects, analyzing plant cells, learning the ‘LAKSHANAM’ of a ‘VRITHAM’ , by heart a line length chemical equation, all these craps made any improvement in your skills needed today?
NO. right?
Then for what, for whom, for why we studied or in my case I can say, wasted time behind these craps?
Hardly few from my +2 batch mates work as doctor, teacher, lab technicians, engineers, nurses, or so. Majority of them works as photographers, clerks, designers, drivers or some govt. clerks. I don’t think the two years helped them much in their life.
They needed to undergo additional time to grasp things required for their profession, that helps. If so, what we need to learn in the pre-degree schools? . Sometimes in the college too?
Let me say, what happens really is, all our students are taught to play with some ‘options’ only. The maximum thing, a student can do is pick an option from provided by his parents/teachers. Majority in the society train their juniors to play with the options, not giving any chance to go outside the option pool. And at the same time the education system, we had today has limited options. There is no scope in dreaming as the heart says.
In my views everyone or most among us have extreme potential to do something in some way, and they can be the king of his life. He will enjoy his life with a thriving spirit. But… 🙁
Who is responsible for spoiling the quintessential part of our life learning unreasonable craps? Do we need really a remedy for this paradox?. Who have the guts to brake this jinx?
We must be able to come up with diversity of subjects and stuffs in the academics. Instead of giving options let the students be free… free to think… free to do… anything and everything. Teach them to dream… dream around the world. Let them do what heart says, let them live as they want.
In the course of journey they themselves will learn what they needed in life and will do what they needed to do.
I am sure things will be more happier then.
